The origins of cashmere in Kashmir trace back thousands of years, with the earliest recorded use dating back to the 3rd century B.C., during the reign of the Maurya Empire in India. The precious fiber comes from the fine undercoat of cashmere goats indigenous to the high-altitude regions of the Himalayas, particularly Kashmir, where harsh winters naturally foster the growth of their exceptionally warm and soft undercoat.
