About

The brand AASHKA was envisioned and developed by the fashion designer Aashka Mehta. I developed a passion for knitwear because I fell in love with yarns and sweaters - fabrics that are soft like fluid and can be easily moulded to the curves of woman's body. I decided to study Knitwear Design at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology. Through the course of my studies and career, I was fortunate to work in the Knitwear Dept. at Calvin Klein, DVF, Aeropostale, Nordstrom, Emilio De La Morena, etc. My work is inspired from my childhood memories in India and my travels across many countries.

In a world overwhelmed by fast fashion, our brand emerged in 2023 with a simple yet powerful vision: to create knitwear that respects both people and planet. Frustrated by the scarcity of truly ethical options in the sweater market, we set out to reimagine how knitwear could—and should—be made.

Our textiles come from certified ethical sources—whether it is wool governed by The Responsible Wool Standard, cashmere meeting The Good Cashmere Standard, or fabrics free from harmful substances under Oeko-Tex Standard 100. Every fiber we use tells a story of care, responsibility, and sustainability.

But... ethics extend beyond at the yarn. We've simplified our entire production process to eliminate unnecessary waste, lower energy use, and ensure transparency from stitch to sale. The result? Durable, versatile knitwear that feels as good as it looks—and makes a positive impact every step of the way.

AASHKA opens the doors to the eastern world of luxury, royalty and opulence. Taking inspiration from India’s colorful tapestry of textiles, embroideries and arts, it represents the vibrant culture that dates back to thousands of years. There is a strong sense of honoring the vibrant past to manifest a grand future. Traditional textiles are redeveloped with modern technologies to create futuristic knitwear. Knit patterns are exquisitely developed on programs, so the exact usage of yarns is determined to dramatically reduce waste and create fully fashioned garments. With close attention to detail, textiles are then programmed into futuristic, artisanal silhouettes. Every silhouette is knitted to evoke a feeling of breezy and opulent comfort.. like the waves of the ocean.

Design Theory

Life is an opportunity to conquer the impossible and bring it into existence. To explore and fantasize unreal worlds in this universe. These worlds are the creations of a human mind, pure and innocent exploring the hidden feelings of a human heart. Every difficulty opens the doors to an indoor world. Situations are relative, but feelings are universal in their existence with potential to connect with every individual. The desire is to explore inwards, rather than outwards.

The exploration of femininity, in it’s raw and natural state, unravels strong emotions and classical ideals of beauty and virtues. She attracts with the power of her consciousness, manifests with her ethic and values, she’s a goddess in her own right.

Design Signature

Unstoppable desire to fantasize mystical worlds and bring them into existence through natural and luxurious textiles. Classical ideals and historical stories are explored through a creative unravelling of colors, patterns and silhouettes. The woman embodies the zeitgeist of the story, idea or fantasy and explores the energy within her soul. She becomes the warrior that she fantasizes and dreams of.

DESIGN SILHOUETTE

The woman is a strong embodiment of her fantasy, and commands the look. The silhouette is a natual extension of the body, and energizes the wearer with it’s sumptuous drapes, minimalist sensuality, natural organic textiles combined with relaxed fit. Clean construction and attention to detail elevates the artisanal feel of the product. The subtle aristocratic flair and chic stying elevates the outfit in context of the wearer.
